hello again!
This one goes out to Mr. Tucker, the one who teaches the Socials class that inspired me to write this poem. I'm thinking of sending this to my local newspaper for next Rememberance Day. I hope you enjoy! It's called "The Invisible Enemy"
the feel of mud
through standard-issue uniforms
and the butt of our guns
as we fire
into no mans land
men sleep
in standing positions
huddled
to avoid the waste
in rivers around our feet
we wait for the signal
to storm the pitch
towards the enemy
which we cannot see
for the mustard gas
clouding the air
like the fog of London,
where our wives and children
wait in vain.
most of us will die
we think
as we fight
the invisible enemy
Still wondering if anybody's out there, Miss Piggy
